The Ohio Educational Technology Conference (OETC) was held this past week in Columbus. Jesse Eastman and I co-presented on the Holden University Center’s flexible learning spaces and innovative technology. Jesse connected from the facility via the Facetime app for iPad. The iPad allowed us to take a real-time virtual tour of the Center. Facetime is a 99 cent video conferencing program that makes use of the front and back cameras of the iPad, With the help of the extensive wireless network at the Center, we could see and hear about the various rooms and features as Jesse toured and shared using the cameras on the iPad.
In my slide presentation I attempted to describe the facility using keywords such as: open, configurable, mobile, flexible, engaged, access, connected, collaborative, supportive. Each of these keywords depicts the design, space, furnishings, technology – but it is the convergence of all these that provides for expanded opportunities for our students and area residents – increasing access to college affordability and completion.
